New Years Eve

This is my 183rd post. Can you believe it? Who knew I had so much to say.
How is everyone? New Year's Eve - so what. We don't do anything special. It is just like every other day. The only thing about New Years is that I have to get my milk at Mac's.
Craig hasn't been well for the last couple of days and went to bed early last night - shocking for him. Today he seems to feel a little better and had the chance to get out and do some exchanges and license the car.
I've had enough of the holidays now. I need everyone to get out of my house and go on about their routines. I am going stir-crazy and our routine has been shot to hell. I am a routine girl. I like it when everyone goes to school/work, and everything is normal and quiet. I am sick of seeing my kids on the computer. Kaedo is obsessed with the computer and would spend 8 hours a day on it if given the option. I am continually asking them if they want to play a game but sometimes even that doesn't work. I kicked them out this afternoon and told them to go walk the dog. When they got back I told them not to come in the house and to find something to do. PLAY! They are with the Backyardigans right now. Who knows where, doing who knows what. Reminds me of the stories my mom tells about being kicked out of the house after breakfast and told not to come home until supper. I just had to get them out of the house. Kaedo was turning grey from lack of sunshine and the bleaching effects computer monitors have on your skin.

Ok - that's it. Happy New Year. Bah Humbug.

did you know?

I never get Craig a drink at meals. His responsibility.

I hate to wear socks.

Tomatoes make my hands itch and swell up.

If the CD ends on a book I'm listening to and I don't get around to changing it, I just keep listening to the same one over and over.

I usually write the same "to do" list over 3 or 4 times. Sometimes just so my penmanship is better.

I always smooth my hair down on my pillow when I go to bed, roll over or wake up in the night, in the hopes of avoiding bedhead.

Anyone else want to share some useless trivia?

Superstars, baby!

Sterling, the Master! Watch him in all his glory. Yes, that is the ball being thrown in the other lane. A kind old man returned it to him.

Kaedo, the Heely master. First day, already doing awesome. No grief about the helmet, OK? Apparently his hat is all the helmet he needs!

Christmas 2007

Hello All -
A day late but I figure you were all to busy to check the blog yesterday. Except maybe for my mom, who being the amazing woman she is, checks daily. Here are some photos from our Christmas. I apologize that they may be a little blurry. I had my NEW CAMERA on the wrong setting. Damn me! So, our day started early. Kaedo was up at 6:30am. He went to Craig's side and asked if it was Christmas yet. Craig said, "not for another hour" and Kaed went back to bed until 7 when they couldn't contain themselves any longer. They opened their Santa gifts, then I made Christmas breakfast. After the smoke alarm going off, and me getting mad a Craig for opening the back door (since we were probably the only idiots up at that time) and my timing being off, as usual, we sat down to eat by 8am. By 8:45 (I think) the breakfast had been cleaned up and we were on to presents. The boys opened one at a time, except for their Snowboard stuff, which they opened all together. They had a wonderful morning and were blessed with wonderful gifts from everyone. Thank you.
Once they got their presents done and we got cleaned up (read - wrapping paper folded and put in stacks for recycling and cardboard broken down - we are so granola), we continued on. We have a tradition here that the boys open all their presents, then Craig and I open our gift from them and then they go off to play and we open ours at a more leisurely pace. It doesn't work for everyone but we like it. After that we watched Shrek 3 - I slept in the chair as they watched - then just hung out until 3:15, and went to the movies - National Treasure. It was awesome! Perfect for kids. Perfect for adults. Non-stop thrill ride. Highly recommended! N & A would love it!
Came home after having Christmas dinner - fries and gravy for Kaedo and Craig, popcorn for Sterling and I. Hung out and got the kids to bed about 9pm. Sorry the photos aren't in order. It is backwards when you do it on the blog and I screwed up.

Puzzle from Amma and Baba for Snowboarding lessons

Kaedo with all his gifts (this one's for you, Shirley)
Sterling with his gifts (ditto above, Shirley)

Sterling rockin' the headband
Kaed too, ugh, rocking the headband
Movies that they received
Sterling's face when he saw the boards coming up. Kaedo in his own world, as usual.

Sterling's balls
Sterling's boobs, uh, balls
Kaedo's death traps, uh, heeleys

One of my fave pix of Sterling. He is gorgeous!
My beautiful boy and more dollys. He loves them!
Kaedo hugging Sterling for the Leafs hat he got him.
Sterling returning the favor for the art set he got.
Well, that's all. Am going to take some video of Sterling bowling tomorrow with my new CAMERA. It has wicked video. Got some of Kaedo heeleing (?) and I will get Craig to post them both, maybe tomorrow.
A Big Happy Birthday to JESSICA tomorrow. You don't look a day over 34!

Happy Christmas Eve!

Hello All -

Well, the time has come. All that anticipation for 15 minutes of fun. Remind you of anything else? The boys are beyond excited and we are happy to be spending the holidays just having fun and being together.

So much to tell you...

The advent calendar is finished. Finished off with $10 this morning. They were happy to get it and I was happy it was done. Ernie returned to the North Pole last night. He left us a note telling us that he had to get back to help Santa get ready for tonight's journey. The boys were disappointed but not as sad as last year.

We went out for breakfast this morning. Barnaby's. Great. While sitting at the table, the boys were bugging us about opening presents. Sterling had this tooth that had been dangling by a thread for weeks and he kept pushing it forward just to creep us out. Craig made him a deal that if he yanked that tooth he could open his Christmas Eve presents on Christmas Eve morning instead of night. Out came the tooth! So, we headed home and did that. We played a really good game called RUK SHUK and then hung out. I made sugar cookies - which sucked, and we watched a movie, Annie. Awesome. Funny how you remember all the words to the songs after so many years.

Did I mention I got a NEW CAMERA!!!!! It KICKS! Craig gave it to me this morning. He handed it to me and said that it was a gag gift that he thought was funny so he wanted to give it to me. Out came an awesome SONY DSC-H7. It is fantastic. I am still getting used to it. The pix are from that camera. Well, that's it for now. Merry Christmas everyone. Be happy and safe.

On the 20 and 21 and 22 day of advent... and other stuff

Hello All - Happy Saturday!
Sorry about the postings. I have been a little blogged out. As for Craigmas, we had a very good day even though Craig makes it sound like we forgot!
OK - onto everything else.
Advent calendar is still doing good. 20 - sleep together, 21 - chocolate for breakfast, 22 - game night. Glad to be almost done. Only a couple more days.
Ernie has been busy. Thursday night he took all the kids unders and threw them all over the place. He was even wearing a pair. Last night he made a mess of the basement, tossing the movies and dumping the cushions and laundry. What a mess.

Craig's tattoo - what do you think? Even if you don't like tattoos, you have to admit is is gorgeous. Mine is very cool too but I haven't taken a picture of it yet. We both agreed that we do have a pain threshold. And it is before the tattoo is done. Mine took 2 hours 10 minutes, and Craig's took 2:45. I was at the breaking point at about 1 1/2 hours, Craig about 2 hours. Insanity!

Went Secret Santa shopping today. So fun. We draw names and set a limit ($3) and then buy something we think the other will like and then open them on Christmas Eve. I think I did really well for Craig. It is fun finding something(s) that are fun and not junk. The other cool part is that everyone pays for their own.
Sterling bowled this morning. He sucked his first two games and then totally kicked it in the 3rd. He got 118. He rocks, man. I think he is very anxious for Christmas so his head wasn't in the game. He got one of those rubber bracelets from a friend there and it says Bowlers Rock and it is glow in the dark. Very cool.
We are heading out to the movies and to pick up some Baileys then games and to see the lights tonight.
Hope you are all well, GG is coming for dinner tomorrow afternoon and will be losing dollars to Kaedo as he kicks her ass in Skip-Bo.

Merry Craigmas

Merry Craigmas to me, merry Craigmas to me... , Shannon didn't want to post tonight because she said nothing really happened today. Translation, the kids didn't remember Ernie and they forgot about the Advent calendar. Ernie drew a sad face with his beads and the calendar will have to wait until tomorrow. I guess when she said nothing happened today, she forgot about Craigmas. I wanted to take this chance then to thank everyone for the wonderful presents I received. I love them all.

Kids almost forgot Ernie tonight again since we got home late from eating. I told Shannon to remind them even though she thinks Ernie should just go home since no one loves him enough to feed him. I think if he did go home the kids would be devastated so I told her that I would deal with the consequences if she would remind them to feed him.

Don't worry, Shannon will probably be back to blogging tomorrow.

Good night everyone.

Craig

On the 19th Day of Advent...

my true love gave to me -
30 minutes extra stay up time
and a partridge in a pear tree

Hello All -

Happy Wednesday - how is everyone? All is well here. We have snow but the weather is glorious. All in all, the weather in great in our part of the World. I know that statement is going to come back and bite me on the butt, however, today it is true.

Ernie was fed, watered, and his jewels were set out last night and he didn't disappoint. The boys laughed and thought last night's antics were great. It is so much fun. I know that I don't have too many years left with Sterling believing, so I am thrilled to get to do these fun things for him.

Craig's birthday is tomorrow. 35! He just gets better looking with age. My god he's handsome. He is working all day, then we are out tomorrow night, so I would recommend calling him at the office, if you want to speak with him directly (sorry Craig). Let me know if you want the number. DO NOT call my house at 5:30 am.

He are going to be spending our Friday night with our dear friends, the Backyardigans. I am looking forward to that. They are wonderful hosts and we always have a great time. So nice to have such good friends, isn't it?

On my way to Markham shortly, for what will probably be my last meeting of the year.

Kaed is home today. He had a sniffly nose last night and a cough this morning. He is doing fine now and has spent the morning on the Game Cube. I was going to send him at lunch but when I saw his teacher this morning she said he wouldn't be missing anything. I would never normally allow him to participate in his activities if he is home from school but tonight he is going to TKD. Does it sound like I'm justifying?

Craig is home working today. He must have told me 5 times. I have totally blocked it out. I wonder why that is?

OK - got to get back to work.

On the 18th day of Advent...

my true love gave to me...
2 dolllarrrsss
They love it when they get money. Only once more, on Christmas Eve.

In Ernie news - we had a small problem with Ernie last night. After fighting over who got to be with him, the boys thought the other was going to feed and water him and so it never got done! Ernie was very unhappy about this and hid! The boys were very unhappy and we searched high and low for him. We finally found him behind the Christmas tree. It was close there for a while. Thoughts that maybe he had gone back to the North Pole were spoken. Thankfully not, and the little bugger is here for another night. I wonder what he is going to get into tonight.

Not too much else to tell you. The countdown to the countdown has begun and we are anxious for the holidays to start. The boys are anxious for school break, although Sterling would like to do Spanish throughout the holidays. Kaedo only has the chance to do TKD twice through the holidays, on the 27th and 29th. They are closed all the rest for Xmas. I'll make sure to get him there. Laura - does N want a ride? (smile)

Have one more gift to pick up for Sterling ($50-60). If anyone has an idea, I would appreciate it, my husband would appreciate it and my son WILL appreciate it.

OK - that's all folks -

on the 17th day of advent....

my true love gave to me...
a bunch of candy and a headache fffoooorrrrr mom!

Hi - how are you? All is well. The boys are doing good. They tobogganed this weekend and had a blast. We got a pile of snow yesterday and it took Craig and I almost an hour to shovel it all. It looks so beautiful. The roads are clear and the sun is shining. The thermometer in the truck said that it was -7, but if it is it is a real nice -7. I only wore a vest and scarf (not only - you know what I mean) and didn't need any mitts this morning. I drove to Markham and had no problems, so no one needs to be worried about us here. We may even have a white Christmas. I remember one year the boys went tobogganing with their new GT Snow racers on Christmas morning. Such fun.

So, Ernie got into some trouble last night. Kaed remembered to feed and water him, and in the middle of the night, quiet as Santa on Christmas Eve, Ernie got up and wrapped himself in toilet paper and left it all over the main floor. Sterling came upstairs and said - "mom, Ernie is a mummy!" Of course I had no idea what he was talking about. When I got downstairs I was appalled at the mess and waste. We're going to have to teach that Ernie a lesson!

So - have you been RAKing? I haven't heard anything. Come on, people! I RAKed yesterday, and RAKed big time today. What a good feeling. If you're not doing it - DO IT!

OK - that's it -

on the 16th day of Advent...

my true love sent to me...
post it notes shaped in a K and an S
and a lot of mess from our dog Errrnnniiieee

Once again, the advent calendar came after the Ernie mess, but it was not forgotten. Both boys are continuously writing notes, drawing pictures, etc, so this is fun for then.

Ernie got into some mischief last night. Kaedo just got all the water put in the armoire yesterday and last night Ernie decided to make and mess and dump it all out. He also took his jar of beads and spread them out too. What a mess. The boys loved it. Sterling graciously cleaned up the mess, so I guess tomorrow is Kaedo's turn. Ernie almost hid last night and it was only at the last minute did they feed him. Last year, if Ernie wasn't fed and watered before they went to bed, he hid, pondering the fact that maybe he should return to the North Pole. Thankfully he always decided to stay and the boys found him. I was concerned that might be the possibility last night, as they had dragged him with them all day and probably wanted to sleep with them. However, they got him all set up (they think he might have been eating croutons right out of the bag!) and all was well.

The interesting thing about Ernie is how quiet he is. We never hear a thing. I really do appreciate his thoughtfulness. The thought of being up all night listening to him scurrying around the house would be too much to bare.
He seems to be as good natured as last year and he hasn't had any accidents in the house - to which I am eternally grateful!

On to other things -
did not leave the house yesterday. I felt like someone was repeatedly sticking a fork in my eye. There was no bowling and my shopping is done so I had no reason to go out. Couldn't someone have broken an arm or something?????
It will be much the same today. It is snowing and there really isn't anything to do. Boo Hoo!

Hope you are having a good day and that all is well wherever you are,

reading

Hi - I m reading a great book right now:

Creation in Death by JD Robb

I came across this paragraph and thought to myself... hey, this is me:

"Hey, these cookies are mag. And so thin you can practically see through them." She took another. "See-through can't have many calories. Eat one, or I'm going to feel like an oinker."

He's Back.....

Hi Guys...
I'm Baaacccckkkk!

How have you been this year? I have been watching out for you, and so far so good. You are definitely on Santa's nice list! I thought I would come back again this year since you guys gave me the best treats and your mom was cool about all the mess I made. It was so fun, wasn't it? Don't tell your mom, but we are going to have some fun again this year. I'm so sorry I am so late arriving. We had a huge snowstorm at the North Pole and we couldn't get out. Thank goodness it happened now instead of on Christmas Eve!
My tastes have changed a little this year. Santa gave me some croutons and now I LOVE them! Do you guys have any of those? A couple of croutons and some water at night would be good.

Well, I can't wait to spend some time with you.
Your pal,
Ernie

What a thrill! Kaedo went down first and FREAKED OUT!! He was so thrilled! He ran upstairs, came in to tell us and then rushed to Sterling's room. I have never seen Sterling get up so quickly. Kaedo read the letter, hugged Ernie like he hadn't seen him in a year - duh! - and they were just over the moon. I overheard Kaedo whispering to Sterling, "I can't wait to see what he does tonight!"
I love it!

In other news,
On the 15th day of Advent my true love gave to me....
Game night tonight
and a partridge in a pear tree!

They had to be reminded, of course, but that's OK.

Have a great day,

On the 14th Day of Advent...

my true love gave to me...
a chocolate bar for breakfast
and a partridge in a pear tree

Hello all -
happy Friday -
how are you? Any big plans for the weekend? Not too much here. Bowling isn't on tomorrow as there is a tournament. Sterling is very disappointed. TKD tomorrow morning and maybe a chance to play with some friends in the afternoon. Hopefully Sterling will be up for it.

Hoping to check out some Christmas lights this weekend. Chris and Laura introduced us to a Parade of Lights in Bowmanville, last year, and N tells us that they are great and have already been. So, I think maybe we'll make some hot chocolate, put it in our go cups and head over there tomorrow night to see all the splendor.

Sunday we have nothing going on. I think we will probably just get ready for the last week of school, maybe watch some Christmas movies and hang out. If the snow is good the boys may build a fort or something.

I watched A Wonderful Life last night. What a great movie! If you haven't seen it, or haven't seen it in a while, please rent it. It is wonderful. Why haven't I seen it before? Look at all I was missing out. It is a great Christmas movie and not boring at all.

Craig is starting back up in a new football league. I think it starts next week or the first week of the new year. They play Tuesday nights between 10pm-12am at the soccer arena in B'ville. He's happy to be getting back to it - after a whole week hiatus! I think he starts outside again in the Spring.

Ernie makes his triumphant return tonight. The letter is written, the treat has been bought - actually, I'm just taking it out of their stocking treats. I don't even know why I say that - I'll probably buy another to replace it.

What's going on people??? I haven't heard any Ernie ideas and hardly any RAKs. I'm thinking today about what I'd like to do both for Ernie and my RAK. I'll let you know.

Boy - this being in the season, making memories, blah blah blah, is tiring. Thank god this only happens once a year. Next thing I know I'll be putting on an Easter Egg hunt!

RAK

I just RAKed someone. Have you done it yet today? A lady down the street lost her husband this year to Cancer, and she walks with a walker. I saw her outside yesterday trying to shovel her driveway and went over to help. Today we had some more snow and I saw that her drive had not been done, so I walked down and did it. Hopefully it will be a nice surprise if she goes out later today.
This is so easy to do. Just open your eyes and look around. The simplest things can mean so much to others.
Laura RAKed me today. She took Kaeden to school for me, and then called and checked up on Sterling later. That is what a great friend is. Small things, people. Small things.
I want to hear what you have been doing.

On the 12th day of Advent...

my true love gave to me...
30 minutes extra stay up time
and a partridge in a pear tree

Before I get on to my random blatherings I wanted to ask everyone to do something today. Do a Random Act of Kindness (RAK). It can be as simple as shoveling some one's walk, helping someone get their groceries in their car, paying for the coffee of the person behind you in the drive thru, or donating to Salvation Army at the grocery store. I had the opportunity to do something nice for someone (I don't even know!) this morning and not only did it make her day, it made mine. When I got up this morning I hadn't expected to do that and nor did she. I feel great, and while it should be done all the time, this is the season and we should make a concerted effort to do something nice right now.
SO, my goal is to do one RAK everyday until Christmas. Wanna join me? Let me know - I'd love to hear your ideas, and I might very well scoop one of them.

On to other things - all is well here today. The weather is glorious, the kids are in school, I have work to do, Craig is doing awesome and we're so busy tonight I shouldn't have to make supper. Yippeee!

I can't believe the kids will be off for Christmas next Friday and that two weeks from now it will all be over but the cryin'. Craig has only 6 days left until he is free for two weeks and 6 days until his birthday! 35! Still the most gorgeous guy I know.

The boys are very excited about Christmas. I think a lot of that has to do with the fact that all the gifts are wrapped, except for the snowboards, and so they see them under the tree. So fun.

Got a message from Scott this morning - just to answer your question - no, this isn't his first tattoo. We both have 4, I think. This is the largest, a quarter sleeve, and he designed it. It is sooo cool. I will definitely post pictures (much to our parent's dismay). You're right - there is no such thing as a last tattoo.

OK - three posts yesterday so not too much else going on.

Movie Review of the Week

Did you know that I love old movies? I do, I love them. Recently I have been borrowing them from the library and have been enjoying watching them on the rare nights Craig grants me access to the TV.
Tonight I watched Stage Door. This movie has an amazing cast including one of my favorite actresses Katharine Hepburn. Other known actors are Lucille Ball, Eve Arden and Ginger Rogers. The movie is set in 1937 (the year it was filmed, by the way), and is just so cool in that the women are strong and smart and amazing - not that we aren't, just in many movies of the black and white version the women are so weak. The story is great and due to the age of the film I was surprised at one of the twists. The actors were "individual" in their roles and each stood on their own merit. An added bonus was Katharine Hepburn's clothes - awesome!
While I'm sure that most of you won't run out and pick up this movie, if you see it in your local library, pick it up. It's worth a watch.

Have a good night,

He looks like Jean Chretien.

On the 11th day of Advent....

my true love gave to me...
nothing,
and a partridge in a pear tree

There was something for the taking but the boys were so busy playing "throw the webkinz down the mountain" that they forgot. They'll open it later. It's candy, by the way.

All is well here. Craig is home for the day, working and I am doing this then getting to work. The boys are doing well and tonight is our busy night. Sterling has Spanish after school and Kaed has a dentist appt. We then have basketball and TKD both at 7. It will be a late night tonight. Not that it isn't usually. They go to bed on time but are total night owls. They get up fine in the morning, thank god.

I had a question about Sterling's Novel Study and his teacher's reaction. Unfortunately, after all that hard work, she wasn't in school yesterday. I hope she is there today.

Sterling's Spanish class is making pinatas right now and so his pinata balloon came home with him on Thursday. Last night he decided to add an extra layer. Needless to say, there was paste everywhere and the damn thing isn't dry yet. I might have to take my blasted blow dryer to it. I need to take it to school this aft so he can have it for after school.

Here's my favorite joke:
So, two snakes are slithering down the road and one snake says to the other,
"hey, are we poisonous"
his friend says,
"why, yes we are. Why?"
"because I just bit my tongue"

Dumb but I love it. My all time favorite joke.

Oh ya, Ernie, Santa's dog will be making his appearance on the 15th and I'm looking for suggestions of trouble he can get into or things he can give the boys. Any ideas would be helpful,

Monday 10 December 2007

On the 10th day of Advent...

My true love gave to me...
$5
and a Partridge in a pear tree

This is the big one of the calendar. It will help pay for the gifts they give each other and the secret Santa gift.
In our house the boys have to put up half the money for the gifts they buy for each other. This year they set a $20 limit. They have to save and spend $10 of their money and we kick in the other $10. They put a lot more thought into the gift they are giving when they spend their own money.
Last year we started a Secret Santa thing. We put the four names in a hat and pulled one each. The person you get is your secret. Of course we have to take them to their destination. They go on their own and pay for it themselves - ie dollar store. We set a limit of $3 (the boys use their own money) and we buy something fun for each other. These are gifts we open on Christmas eve. So fun. Last year Kaedo bought me shampoo and I am supposed to use it only on Christmas to wash my hair. Craig gave Kaedo a Rudolph nose that he had been coveting. I gave Sterling a nutcracker and something else and Sterling gave Craig a clamp and a tie-down strap.
It was fun.

I am so excited for Christmas. We have some great surprises in store for them and we are just going to have so much fun. Craig is off from the 20th to the 7th. We are so lucky to have him at home all that time.

Hope you are having a happy Monday. Yeah Jessica - have fun moving today and sleeping in your new house tonight! Congratulations.

On the 9th Day of Advent

My true love gave to me....
1 dollllllaaaaaarrrrrr
and a partridge in a pear tree

Today's calendar was supposed to be sleep together but that was such a gong show last week, I fell back on the money thing. Tomorrow is the regularly scheduled money and they will be thrilled as it is $100 each. Just joking. It's the biggest prize of the 24 days - $5.
On to our regularly scheduled programming...

Good afternoon all,
Hope you are having a good Sunday. All is well here. Craig is watching football, the boys are playing outside and I am doing this, then wrapping Sterling's bowling balls. He is going to be so excited and thrilled. We are done with our shopping now and everything is wrapped. Actually, I have a few small things to pick up for Craig. His Christmas will be sparse this year due to his monster tattoo. I have no idea how anyone can sit in a chair and get needles poked into you for four hours. agghhh. He is either stronger or dumber than me.

GG is coming for dinner tonight. We are having quite a spread. Pizza and shrimp. Two of her favorite things. It will be nice to have her here for a few hours and hopefully I'll get a chance to beat her in a round of skipbo.

What a difference a week makes. Many of you know about Sterling's problem getting his novel study done. His teacher (bless her heart) gave him a second chance. Well, let me tell you, he has just kicked it. It is awesome! It looks great, the content is fantastic and he has really put his all into it. I hope he is satisfied with his mark. Maybe we are seeing a turning point in him.

Kaedo was at TKD yesterday and had a blast. He loves the all ages classes and it doing great. 3 stripes in the last 10 days. Craig also got the pattern from the dojang so he can work on his orange belt patterning. He isn't very proficient in this area, so he wants to get working on it.

A big "shout out" to Jessica and Ken on their big move tomorrow. We love you, and know it will go great.

Well, that's it. Hope you have a good rest of the day,

Saturday 8 December 2007

on the 8th day of advent

my true love gave to me:
games night ... probably for 3

I have one child, who shall remain nameless, that is insistent on picking on his brother and being an all round pain in the ass. Once I finish this post I will be threatening him with the consequence of all consequences and that will either smarten him up or make for a very quiet evening.
Barring any outbursts or changes in plans, here is what we've got going:
Today we have bowling and TKD and after that the boys are attending a craft class at Scholar's Choice making a gift for their parent. After that I will be making a chicken dinner (WTH?) while the kids do homework and we will finish off with a games night and possibly a movie.
Tomorrow Sterling will be continuing to work on a big project he needs done for Monday, Kaeden will continue to study for his math test, Craig will continue his tradition of going to the gym and I will continue to read Nora Roberts.

On the 7th Day of Advent

my true love gave to me...
chocolate bars for breakfast
and a partridge in a pear tree

Sterling was up at 8 and Kaedo didn't get up until 9:45am. Sterling was so wound up. It was Kaedo's turn to open the box. Thank god it was chocolate. I think Sterling would have been disappointed with anything less considering his restraint.

Went to Costco today to pick up croutons, panetini and milk plus 11 other things I didn't know I needed. Go figure. There were a lot of people but it wasn't too crazy. Tell me if you have noticed the same thing...people are not too cheery and it is the season of joy. So many people just having to squish through, be first in line, shoving to get the last of something. I don't get it. I can say that I am finished my shopping aside for Kaedo and something small for Craig. Feels good. I've really thought about my gifts this year. My niece and nephew definitely made out best. It was fun shopping for them. Large presents are no surprise this year but it guarantees that everyone has gotten what they wanted. I sent Jessica her birthday card and she said, "thanks for the Lululemon GC" without having received the card yet! The nerve.

The boys have been talking continuously about snowboarding and Craig and I have assured them that we don't have the money for that this year. Boy are they going to be surprised! I can't wait to see their faces!

It will be a quiet Christmas for us. GG will come on the 23rd for our Christmas celebration. We will have our Christmas Fondue on Christmas Eve and will open jammies and maybe a game. Christmas morning will just be the four of us, possibly some sledding, and then the movies! Love that.
OK - why am I talking about this when Christmas is still 18 days away?

One last thing - the problem with being so on top of your Christmas shopping is that since everyone else is still shopping you (meaning I) feel you should be doing the same.

Will write tomorrow about advent calendar and what we have planned for the weekend.

On the 6th Day of Advent...

My true love gave to me...

Shopping at the dollar store

and a Partridge in a Pear Tree

All is well here aside from some bruises, headaches and all around feeling a little under. Doesn't sound like all is well does it?

The boys loved the calendar again today, so I am happy about that.

Sterling had his interview last night and we are happy with it. It was a long interview as we were the last one so there was no pressure of the time. Poor teachers, I had a million questions and they just wanted to get home. Oh well. They won't let me have the last interview again!

Well, that's it.

Still looking for a good quiz, Kelly. I haven't forgotten,

Movie Review of the Week

We here at Head Office (that means me) have decided to bring you a new feature for all your reading pleasure. We (that means me) will be reviewing movies weekly and giving you some guidance in your pursuit of perfect viewing pleasure. FYI - there will be no XXX movies reviewed here. Those can be done in your own home. (send your reviews directly to me, OK?) (just joking - gross)

Got this from the the library and watched it last night. The story is wonderful, the ending is great, the lead startlingly beautiful, costumes amazing and the scenery unbelievable. It is not a quick paced movie but for anyone who likes movies along the line of The Queen or Elizabeth, should definitely pick up a copy. Sorry for the bad image, I suck.
Just sayin'...

On the 5th Day of Advent...

my mmmooooommmmm gave to me...

Stay up 30 minutes later tonight
and a partridge in a pear tree (not)

For those of you that don't know, I took a header on my deck yesterday. No, I didn't put my hands out, yes I know I'm an idiot, no I didn't break any bones, yes I think I would feel better if I had, no I have no one to blame but myself, and yes, mom, I can hear you saying, "put out your hands, for Christ sake!"

That's it for today. More tomorrow,

On the 3rd and 4th day of Advent...

My true love (mom) gave to me...
$1 each (Dec 3) and some lifesavers caaannnndy. (Dec 4)
As for Sunday's sleeping together. Big fight ensued and so that was called off. It was re-scheduled for last night and I could hear the boys giggling and having some fun. I don't mind them staying up a bit later if they have no problems getting up in the morning. No problems today.
They are taking turns opening the boxes and are having quite a good time. I asked them this morning if they would rather just have candy and they said it was more fun to not know what was going to happen each day. "Besides mom, you let us eat candy already".

Working today and just enjoying being in my nice warm house. A book is playing, the dog is sleeping, the diet coke is flowing, which means the bathroom is getting a workout!

Parent/Teacher interviews start tonight. Kaedo's is at 4pm. Sterling's is tomorrow night. Sterling has Spanish today and is very excited. He loves it. Today is a hard day for him as he has Spanish until 5pm and then has BBall from 7-8:15pm and doesn't get home until about 8:45pm. We still have to fit supper and homework around that. This is the only hard night we have but it really takes it's toll on him. Unfortunately both of these activities are throughout the school year. We may have to get up a little earlier on Tuesday mornings to get organized. We shouldn't have any problems considering they only get up at 8:30 and school starts at 9:10am. We'll see.

Had a question about school pictures. Yes, the boys both got retakes. We have got them back and they are fantastic. Especially Sterling's. He is so photogenic. Kaedo isn't sure how to smile for the camera yet, so his is a little more forced. Still looks adorable, though. The orders for the pix have to be in by Dec. 10, so I will post/send out once we get them. I don't expect them until after Christmas.

OK - that's it - hope everyone enjoys their day.

Oh Christmas Tree

Yesterday we decorated our tree and I think it is my favorite yet. We weeded out some of our dollar store ornaments and others that we didn't like and kept the really important ones. I thought I would show you some of them:

The boys made these with Jessica. I think there were 8 but now there are only 5 or six.

After realizing that Craig had no ornaments on the tree from when he was a kid (Shirley!), we thought he should make one. Here it is. It even says "Craig - 2007" inside.

I made this Mrs. Claus with a friend (Felicia Finnell) when I was in Elementary school. I think I was having a sleepover at her house.

Lovingly made by Kaeden.

Were they ever actually that small?

One of Craig's favorite ornaments. A garland made by Sterling. Don't know how old it is. 4 or 5 years would be my guess.

We have two of these angels. One has Kaedo's name and one has Sterling's name on it.

I made this at a neighbors birthday party in 1978??? Michelle Wilson, I think her name was. She was my first friend.

Craig's other favorite ornament. A wreath made by Kaeden. It sort of looks like a pissed of mutant or something in this picture.
Santa ornament that belonged to my uncle in the 1970's before he died. I'm the only one that puts these on the tree. There are 2 santas and two others but I can't explain them. Very special.

Another one of my fantastic creations. The pink glitter look a bit like nipples now that I am looking at this photo.

Sterling's year to put the angel on the tree. Sterling made the angel in either playschool or in daycare. He would have been around 4. That is probably the year we started putting up a tree.

You may be wondering why I have so many ornaments from when I was a kid and why Craig has none. When mom and dad became Gypsies they gave Jessica and I all our ornaments. Shirley just doesn't love Craig. If it's any consolation, she doesn't love Kelly, either.

We listened to Christmas music, put all our wrapped gifts under the tree and Craig and I did a craft. Yes, I know, pitiful. We kept the tree lit up until bedtime and it was nice. Now all I need is some Bailey's and hot chocolate.

On the 2nd day of Advent...

my true love gave to me...
Sleepover tonight - pick a room and sleep together - a school night no less.
I'm sure a movie will be snuck in there somewhere.

Wonderful snow today. It doesn't seem too cold and the kids are outside laughing and giggling, building and throwing, cheering and "angeling" their faces off. The neighborhood kids have congregated and there is fort building and snow surfing going on.
Sterling is inside now (just came in) and is helping with the peripheral decorating. He loves to help and do these things.
Kaed is still out just loving life.

Games night was great last night:
Charades - everyone did awesome
Blokus - I kicked ass
Jigity - two different people one - I think I was one of them

The kids headed up after that and just hung out together. Craig went into the basement and watched some TV and the dawg and I sat and read a book. I listened while he read.

Today we got to sleep in a bit and then in anticipation of gramma's arrival we scurried (do humans scurry?) around and moved furniture (hurray! my trunk is a coffee table again - my dastardly plan worked!). The tree was set up, the ornaments hauled up and the we got the call...
"I don't think the weather is good enough, save an ornament for me". We're going to have our "hang one last ornament on the tree" party next Sunday at 4. Craig, did I mention that?

So, things have slowed down a bit here, one o'clock has come and gone (actually as I writing this it is 1:01pm) and we are going to wait until later to listen to Christmas music, drink eggnog (pop), eat hors d'oeuvres (probably chips) and be merry.

I just checked my blog stats and since I added the counter to the blog there have been over 1000 hits. If you haven't introduced yourself, please do.

I hope you have a wonderful day doing whatever you are doing.

On the first day of Advent

my true love gave to me....
Game night - kids pick

We - read I - decided it would be more fun to have some activities than just candy. So, tonight we are playing Charades, Blokus and Cranium Jigity. I'm looking forward to it.

Sterling bowled this morning - got a 260 for his three games. I was impressed and he was happy with his score. Registered Craig and Sterling for the Family Twosome tournament on December 29. Funny how it is his MOTHER that spends her Saturdays at the alley but it is his FATHER he wants to bowl with. sniff, sniff.
Ah well, there is no accounting for taste.

Kaed has had a rough morning. He had his Lil Kinz all ready in their backpack to take to bowling and forgot them at the front door. Major trauma. Crying kid. You know how much he likes his Dollys. Followed by a game he wanted to play at the bowling alley that he was, "sooo close" to winning. Another major trauma - almost crying. Let's see, what else? His brother had promised to let him use his PSP during bowling and reneged. I had to get involved and that is never pleasant.

Stopped in at Scholar's Choice this morning and had a none to pleasant encounter with one of the staff. Hate it when that happens. No one is very cheery even though it is the holiday season.

We are putting up our Christmas tree tomorrow and GG is coming to help - read put on one ornament. She has come to our decorating every year so it is nice to continue the tradition.

Well, that's it. Check back tomorrow for day two of the calendar. Just so you don't think I'm being un-cheery, I have also included money and candy on some days.

Hope you have a great Saturday,
