hit the wall

Rope Walls - that is!

Sterling and his good friend A were very lucky to have the opportunity to participate in a week of wall climbing at the school. What a great thing. I was both amazed at it and how much the kids loved it. I had the opportunity to attend last Friday's session and take some pictures. This takes place in the gym, and there are a whole bunch of stations. Kids just worked with a partner (for the most part) and went for it. They had great instruction and were very confident. The company that does this comes from Montreal, sets up in the gym, supplies everything, and checks every child and their harness every time they prepare for another station. I was just amazed. They get 50 minutes a day for 5 days. Our school rocks!

Hey Sterling, that is one happy looking photo. I would think that you're lovin' that wall climbing and you're probably really good at it too. Good for you, makes school suck less when you can do some neat things besides studying and learning boring stuff, right???

We had a good day in the bad weather today. We visited the Gallery of Fine Arts, the Museum of Americas costumes, the old cemetary and the Brownsville Heritage Museum. They were all enjoyable venues and well worth the entry fee. Yesterday, we visited the most incredible zoo. It was specifically for endangered species. We had never heard of, let alone seen, about 20% of the animals that were housed there. It was a very unique and wonderful experience. Tomorrow we are going to a 2000 booth flea market and then a Navy Band concert. Sunday we will pop into Mexico for the day and hopefully Monday will find us on the beach with chairs, books and a picnic. The weather is supposed to be wonderful in the next couple of days, so here's hoping. Our new bikes have yet to be ridden any great distance and there are miles and miles of bike paths here in southern Texas. We figure to get lots of miles in next week. We move 10 miles north of Brownsville on Tuesday to a place called San Benito. We will be there for the week. Loads of activities and things to see here. Very historic and very Hispanic. A wonderful mix of culture.

Love to all
