And so it begins...

With Christmas just around the corner - or so it seems, it is time for our first tradition to be brought out. Years ago I made this advent calendar for the boys and today being December 1st, we got started. Aside from Kaedo's Santa hat this is the first sign of the Christmas season. While many advent calendars are filled with candy or little toys, I put money in ours. They don't need the little toys or the candy and the money is a good way for them to have a little extra as they purchase their Christmas gifts. I'm sure it goes against the reason for an Advent Calendar but it works for us and the kids love it (duh).

Looks great and we know the boys love it, what kid wouldn't. Hard to believe it's December 1st. We have to get organized and see what we've got so we know if we have to get anything else. Think we're done though. We're having tree decorating when Jessica and the girls arrive and we have way more decorations than we do tree. It is a tradition we truly enjoy. I'm looking for poinsettias, but they're not inexpensive here. We may have to wait until they go down in price a little.

Had an awesome day today checking out the Redwood Forest and visiting the town of Ferndale. It has been restored to the victorian era. We walked around for about an hour admiring the houses, shops and the wares. Lots of handmade articles in the shops and we could have purchased loads of stuff as everything was so lovely. We just bought postcards however and then went and took photos of the places on the cards. We drove an unnumbered road for 26 miles and it toook us 1-1/2 hours. We kept asking each other if this was really a road. About 1/2 hour in we met another vehicle so figured it was a road. A terrible washed out, one lane in many places road with some of the most beautiful scenery imaginable, when the fog lifted that is. A great day.

Just got home and now putting in 1/4 of our $5.09 turkey. It will make a nice supper and give us plenty of leftovers.

Love to all
