a death in the family

Hi All -
we had to put Sterling's fish down today. Sterling was not at the funeral but sent his best wishes to Speady's family.
Did you know that flushing fish is inhumane? The Internet tells us that putting the fish in a glass of clear alcohol is the most humane way. They fall asleep and die. So - we wasted a glass of Malibu. Might just have to pour it back into the bottle - just joking.
In order to help Sterling feel better Craig told him about us replacing Kaed's fish in the summer, so Sterling said he wanted a "replacement" fish. Needless to say we had to tell Kaed as we didn't want Sterling to spill the beans.
It has been a highly charged and emotional day. One in which I do not want to re-live anytime soon.
Is this like when your dog goes to live on the farm? How do you get rid of a dead hamster?

Oh Craig! You didn't boil the fish AGAIN, did you???

Our condolences Sterling. Next time get a fish big enough so that when it decides to die it's big enough for supper. That way, you have no dilemmas about how to dispose of them.

We are in Argentia overlooking Placentia Bay in this lovely campsite that holds at least 200 and there are 3 of us. It is a beautiful view and we looked at it all afternoon as we watched the golf game. It was wonderful just sitting around doing nothing. Tomorrow we're up at 6 and exploring.

We are sad about leaving this great island as we feel we'll probably never come back but it is one of the best and most gorgeous places we've ever been. We recommend it highly to whoever is looking for a great trip, over 3 weeks long. The roads are amazing only because we can't believe the potholes. They had a hurricane here just before we arrived so the culvert renewal is in high gear. It's a toss up as to what is wider, the roads or the driveways...and boy, have we been in a lot of driveways. We plan to be in Truro for a week starting Wednesday. We'll use it as our home base and travel by car from there. With gas prices at $1.12 today and the motorhome doing $1.00 a mile you can bet we'll park it centrally and work from there. The very long and steep hills really contribute to the high cost of running but we are having such a wonderful time and seeing such wonderful sights that anything is worth it. The trees have not turned yet and we are hoping that will happen before we leave the Maritimes. We will be in Nova Scotia at least a week. We have done all the north shore but there's lots to see on the south shore. We will then head to PEI and then NB. We'll have to move along a little faster and not see EVERYTHING, otherwise we'll still be here in the snow. We would like to be in Quebec City around the 15th of October, but who knows.

Love to all

I can't believe you wasted good malibu when I know Craig had some Crown Royal in the cupboard. It shocks me that you are my sister. Don't you have a garburator??? That would definitely be the most humane way to do it. I actually feel bad just writing that. Now I'm wondering if I should erase it. I think I should... but this inner dialogue is just too good to pass up. It reminds me of this time at band camp....
