week 27

Week 27 and the weather is not too bad at all. Jeans and sweaters but I don't mind that. I'm making my least favorite meal in the world for supper tonight - BREAKFAST. Yuck. We are trying a new format where one day Craig picks, next day Kaedo, the Sterling then me and so on and so on. The kids both asked for breakfast on their days and I said no, so tonight is my night and bacon it is. Did I mention how much I hate cooking bacon? HATE. The other problem for me is getting everything to come out on time. I know that's why we have ovens but really, shouldn't toast be able to butter itself!
Oh well, must go - there is bacon calling my name - zweeee zweeeee zweeeee

Shannon - I think your new format letting each pick what it on the menu for supper is a great idea. That's half my problem, not knowing what to make and when I ask Stan, he usually says - it doesn't matter to me. When he says what he's hungry for, it's much easier. Jim Hendry showed us a way to cook back when we were in Grande Prairie last summer but it's done on the BBQ and not sure if you like using the BBQ. He uses a cookie sheet, lines it with tin foil and cooks the bacon on the BBQ - nice and crisp, throw the tin foil away with all the grease in it and your cookie sheet isn't even dirty - it sure worked great for him and also no grease smell in the house!

Glad to hear your weather is holding out. We had beautiful sun, blue sky and hardly any wind this morning and +2 - it is now overcast, windy but +15 - it really smells like it could rain which wouldn't be a bad thing. It is so dusty and dirty all over that a beautiful rain would be nice.

Love the photo of the boys once again and I just checked the beginning of the year and what a change in them both. Give them big hugs from grampa & gramma please!

Loved your blog from yesterday Shannon and didn't get a chance to comment - you are such a good writer, we love your blog!

Hope the rest of your day went well - love you lots and BIG HUGS TO ALL!

Oh my goodness! I thought I was the only one that hates bacon!!! I actually can't stand it and get repulsed eating it! You should try a menu planning as a family. We have a dry erase board in the kitchen and together we choose roughly two weeks worth of meals and write them down then buy groceries for those meals. Saves the "what should we eat" debate! We write the perishable meals first (short lived veg't) but don't follow a specific order. We will often go off sales then too when making menu and it stops lots of compulsive buying where you get home and you aren't really sure what you bought! Your guys are old enough that they maybe could even plan one meal where they cook and cleanup each week!

Another great photo of gnome, I guess you two look ok too, lol. Soooo handsome.

That's how we cook bacon, Shirley, on the BBQ. We have a griddle but the foil on a cookie sheet works great also and no clean up. I always make the bacon ahead and 10 seconds in the micro heats it up and you'd never know it wasn't just cooked. Just did some last week and we had a piece or two every day for about four days. Tasted just as good on day 4.

Another gorgeous day, it's so fantastic. Blackjack at 1, water volleyball, happy hour and a huge bingo tonight as it's the last one for the season. All the left over power ball money will be part of the winnings. The morning has been spent getting our August summer holiday planned. You actually have to go through the Canadian Embassy to get a tour of the White house and the Pentagon and they only allow 50 Canadians a month. They are not taking any more registrations as of now but "check back daily". Looking forward to going back to Washington, DC as we haven't been there for 40+ years.

Only 5 more days left of an amazing winter. Boohoo!

Love to all
