Valley of Fire

WOW! Vegas - what can I say? A great way to spend your 40th birthday. The best part of going to Vegas with my parents is that you don't spend a week in a casino (although with endless supplies of money I would not be opposed to that). My mom and dad know what there is to see and where to go to see it. Amidst watching my beautiful niece dance and playing with my other beautiful niece, I had the opportunity to go to the Valley of Fire and the Hoover Dam. These pictures are from our day at the Valley of Fire. Imagine it being 45 degrees out and no shade. The poor air conditioning in the van.

This old guy had apparently been hanging around the picnic area for the last two years, we were told by the ranger. Recently someone fed him and he has gotten aggressive and now they are talking about relocating him to another area where he will not come into contact with people.

It was a great day and the terrain is so magical. I cannot explain how beautiful it was. These pictures do not do it justice at all.

Great seeing photos of your holiday Shannon - also wonderful talking to you the other day - love you lots.

Nice and warm here again today - +28 at 7:40 p.m. House doesn't cool down too much at night - all our fans turned on high. Stan just mentioned going for a bike ride - maybe we'll get a cool breeze while riding.

Hope you all had a great day. BIG HUGS TO ALL!

Glad you enjoyed your trip, Shannon.

We left the Grand Canyon yesterday and came here, to Mesa Verde. We had picked our route but when we saw the sign for Monument Valley, we detoured. It was well worth it even though it took 9 hours to do the 400 km. journey. Today we took two guided tours to the cliff dwellings. Denis felt he couldn`t do one of them as he had to go through a tunnel on all fours so he looked after Avery while we did the most challenging climb. Emma was fantastic as she climbed a 30 ft. ladder at the base of a cliff and volunteered to crawl through a tunnel first. All I could imagine were scorpions, but we came out untouched, although terrified. The elevation really made us feel out of shape but we conquered the fear and the lack of oxygen. It was fantastic, absolutely an incredible part of the world. We go back tomorrow to do the last guided hike and climb. Avery came to the second one today and it was a sight to see her mom carry her up the ladders, tomorrow will be more of the same. We may stay an extra day or move on after that, we`re not sure. We are sure of how glad we are to have come to this wonderful Park and explore it`s treasures, the cliff dwellings of the Anasazi from over 800 years ago.

Chores never stop so Jessica prepared supper and cooked pizzas for our picnic basket tomorrow while I did laundry. I figure I got off the best. Don`t know where the days go but I do know that we sleep very soundly at night. Early out tomorrow so the littles are in bed and fast asleep.

Love to all
