Sterling 2.0

I think it is very hard to be 16. And to finally decide you might like someone more than a friend. And to realize that you are much more mature than your counterparts. And to decide your parents really don't suck.

Sterling has suffered from a small identity crisis over the last few months. No matter how amazing we think he is, he didn't feel the same way. I've been told if you work on the inside, you'll be happier with the outside. When you're 16, 26, 36... that is not always the case. So, Craig and I sat down with our boy and hashed it out. What could WE do to help. What it came down to was he needed to work on the outside to feel better about the inside. He was scared to give up all those t-shirts that were stained and frayed, those jeans that simply were awful, and he was most afraid to start showing his beautiful face.

A deal was struck - a new haircut (at his favorite salon) (note hairCUT, not trim) chosen by me, ok'd by him, cut by a very cute girl who listened and talked and treated him the way he deserves to be treated - not rushed out the door without a how-do-you-do.

Next up was a partial new wardrobe (after all we can only do so much)
To the mall we went. He ended up with a wonderful cut, 3 new pairs of jeans, two shirts, a belt and a new jacket. Add to that the two new shirts from Christmas and he's almost good to go. We bought jeans that fit, shirts that looked great and a jacket he just loved.

yesterday morning

this morning

This picture does not do justice to how fantastic he looks. Add to that, I got a text today telling me the big reveal at school 'went GREAT'!

I'm sure three girls fainted as soon as they saw him.

Kid - you're outside is looking great and your inside is as amazing as ever!

Sterling - you look so grown up!! Wow - hope everything goes well for you this coming week. Love your new hair cut and it makes it look like you've grown 5" or more. It's true what your mom says - your outside is looking great and your inside is as amazing as ever! Walk tall and hold your head high! We are very proud of you and love you so much!

Well, we've finally got all the Christmas decorations down inside and out. It was 0 out today and we put lights and everything all away. Looks pretty bare all over - inside and out. It's supposed to be nice again tomorrow so we best enjoy the day.

Hope you all had a great weekend - talk to you tomorrow.

BIG HUGS TO EVERYONE!

OMG! Is this the Sterling we know and love so much? We think you've always looked terrific and now we're glad you think so as well. You certainly look grown up and it is wonderful to see the whole of that handsome face of yours. So glad driver's ed is so enjoyable. We love to drive so your love of it would come naturally we think. You drove that old Jeep so well that we're sure you'll be an excellent driver. Congratulations on all the other positives that have happened in your week. Sterling Inc., that would be a great name.

Heading to Beryl and Lorne's for supper tonight. Leaving Lake Havasu tomorrow and going to Blythe to have supper with Bob and Pat. We'll stay in that area overnight and then head to Yuma on Tuesday. It's desert time and we're looking forward to it. Lots of friends in Yuma this week so it will be busy. The weather is warming up also, should be around 23C today. Glad we missed those Lethbridge winds they were forecasting this morning.

Havasu market this morning so must get going to start my Christmas shopping for next year.

Love to all

Hi Kaeden,

Didn't forget about you, just didn't read the comment before pressing the button. Hope that the teeth settle down soon and that the discomfort goes away. I have never had braces so I don't know what you're feeling but it can't be the most pleasant experience. Think of the outcome, that's what we always told your mom. That doesn't help how you feel right now but it will get better. The photo of you with Grover is adorable, however, we couldn't see your face, just your puppy's. Love you tons, sweetie, and good luck with the tracks this week.
